MDOT SHA “RIDES” Launch & Ribbon Cutting / AASHTO “TRAC” National Bridge Builder MD Finalists Awards Ceremony
On May 10th, 2019, MDOT SHA kicked off the “Roadways in Developing Elementary Students” (RIDES) at CMIT Academy North Elementary after a successful launch of the program for 2018-2019. RIDES allows students to utilize their creativity through math and science activities to learn real-world transportation and civil engineering concepts. We appreciate the tools and training provided and together, with our MDOT SHA partners, the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) looks forward to the program expansion to our CMIT Academy South Elementary in 2020!
After the historic pilot run in 2018-2019 of the “TRansportation And Civil engineering” (TRAC) Bridge Builder Module at CMIT Academy North that resulted in Maryland’s inaugural debut in the AASHTO National TRAC Bridge Builder Challenge, all CLF MS and HS’s launched TRAC. With the bar set higher, three CLF school teams rose to the challenge and were among only (18) teams nationally selected to participate in AASHTO’s National TRAC Bridge Challenge on May 22nd in Park City, Utah.
To commemorate this historic moment for Maryland, MDOT SHA’s Deputy Administrator Jason Ridgeway presented Chesapeake Science Point, CMIT Academy North HS, and CMIT Academy North MS each with certificates and trophies. We celebrated this tremendous achievement at the 05/10/2019 Media Event hosted at CLF Central Office in Laurel, MD.
2018: MD’s Inaugural Debut at the AASHTO TRAC Bridge Builder (CMIT N HS)
2019: MD returns & this time with 3 of 18 teams from across the USA. All (3) from a CLF Public-Charter School and MD now ranks 2nd for participating teams.
We were excited when Deputy Administrator mentioned expanding RIDES to our newest school, CMIT Elementary South!
Congratulations to our three CLF schools with National Finalists and good luck in Utah later this month!
