Celebrating Black History Month

The theme for Black History Month this year was It Takes A Village, therefore we encouraged all staff, parents and students to be excited and participate during the month long activities. Students participated in CLF’s Black History Month Poster/Essay Contest and five of our very own scholars were finalists from the competition. We also had parents sign up to volunteer and read a book written from African American authors in various classrooms. Members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated had the opportunity to conduct a Community Service Day where they were able to perform, share information to our scholars about their fraternity, judge posters from the contest and read a loud to a second grade classroom. During this month, we were also able to enjoy multiple assemblies where students and outside guests were able to engage our scholars with performances about the African American culture. Teaches competed in a Black History Month contest where they were able to show their creativity to win a special prize. It was such a delight to see and have high participation in all of our events during Black History Month. Let’s continue to be active village members during the remainder of this school year in effort to encourage our scholars to make the decision to take actively participate in their educational experience. Our village at CMIT Elementary School-North is growing strong!
